  Classic smothered hotdogs and good old/fashion cheeseburgers. Nothing fancy here. Food comes on paper plates and drinks are in Styrofoam glasses. If you want upscale, this is not it. On the other hand you are definitely in a family run restaurant of three generations. The history is everywhere. The owner came to visit our table and was absolutely delightful, regaling us with family history and recent exploits.  It is an experience you should have.

  Chris' has been in Montgomery for over a hundred years and is undeniably a Montgomery institution. The sign outside the establishment declaring its history is proof enough and I have tried here a few times, I wanted to like it, but, unfortunately, the place falls far short to give it any kind of positive review.
  
  The place has definitely seen better days. If it was only that, I could overlook it. I could perhaps attribute it as an element of the inevitable march of time and that within the age worn building was literally over a century of history, of people who have stood within those walls. But, sadly, Chris' offers little to commend.
  
  Let's get to the most important factor, the food. One would think that with a century of experience, this establishment would have a food worthy of its iconic history. They are known for their hot dogs and these tiny, cheap hot dogs are terrible and their sauce falls short.
  
  Again, a century on business is commendable. However, in my opinion, while the longevity of this establishment is commendable, the hot dogs are terrible.

  Chris' Hot Dogs is a Montgomery institution.  Open for 100 years as of 2017, it's a piece of the city's history!  We were excited to stop by and try it on our way home to Huntsville.
  
  Like many other reviewers have noted, the restaurant has seen better days -- it's rather dirty and grimy and funky inside.  However, that doesn't bother me too much.  Dives are fun!  But if that's not your thing, stay away.
  
  We were surprised to see that waitresses actually take your order.  Totally expecting to order at the counter.  There appeared to be two women working tables.  Ours was a bit slower and less friendly than the other, but she still did a fine job and our food came out quickly once we placed our orders.
  
  Chris's offers hot dogs, hamburgers, tenders, fries, onion rings, and homemade soup.  They're famous for their hot dogs, so that's what we got.
  
  The prices are still pretty good.  My parents split a two hot dog combo, I had one plain, and my boyfriend had a hamburger/hot dog combo.  The hamburger was fresh and pretty tasty; note that it's a little on the small side, like many old timey diner hamburgers.  
  
  Everyone liked the hot dogs well enough.  Nothing eye-popping or wildly delicious, but just a good, solid dog.  They remind me very much of the red dogs popular in the Carolinas.  No casing, disconcerting bright pink color...yum.  My parents thought Chris's sauce was unique, sweeter than they were expecting, but enjoyable.
  
  The onion rings were better than the fries.  The fries were extra greasy, tasted like they'd come from the freezer, and some of the larger crinkle cuts were under cooked, and therefore hard and mealy in the center.  
  
  While Chris's doesn't really wow on its own, it's definitely worth a visit to soak in a piece of Alabama history for a fairly low price.

  It's about the history, the hustle and bustle, super-attentive staff, the bargain prices, the good dogs with great sauce, the well-cooked burger (sauce on it too), the fries and rings....and so many things. Oh, did I mention the Lemon Pie?....really really tasty.
  
  Ok, make no bones about it this is a simple and straightforward great place for a reasonably quick lunch. There's just something about the historic charm and buzz of activity that made our quick stop a special day, indeed.
  
  Nothin' fancy...doesn't need to be.

  Fun place to eat because of all the history. Place probably hasn't changed much in 50 yrs. I wasn't super impressed with the hot dogs though. I expected an awesome hot dog from a hot dog place but it was actually kind of a small and uninteresting hot dog. The burger was pretty dang good though and was way better than the hot dog. People were nice there and service was great so I recommend eating here but just don't get your hopes too high for the hot dogs.
